Louisburg’s FFA Food Science team with members Hallie Hutsell, Faith Seuferling, Addie Katzer, and Hattie Harris traveled to the 90th FFA national convention in Indianapolis and won first place in the competition. As individuals hallie hutsell won second place, Faith Seuferling won third place, Addie Katzer seventh, and Hattie Harris won eleventh place.

“ Winning first place was a ten out of ten feeling. I had to study a lot during the trip but it was definitely worth it,” Hutsell said.

To go to nationals, The team had to win the state championship.

“It was a tremendous accomplishment, winning state was very hard. It took a lot of work and studying for the kids participating in the competition,”Morgan said.

The FFA team worked hard, for the months leading up to the convention preparing in and out of class and event spent most of the trip studying for the competition. However,  during the trip, the team went to a concert, giving them a much needed break.

“The trip was fun. The kids competing didn’t have a lot of free time, but we did get to go to the Rascal Flatts concert, that was fun” Jim Morgan, FFA sponsor, said.

Food science wasn’t the only team who went to nationals, though. The floriculture (flower growing)  team placed 10th with team members Kaitlyn Urban, senior, Shaylor Whitham, senior, Carli Caplinger, junior, and Brody Knipp, junior. Nursery and Landscape Placed 11th featuring four 2017 graduates: Bryn O’Meara, Megan Eberhart, Kaitlyn Gaza, and Barrett Eccher. These finishes, along with the gold earned in horticulture, made for another successful and memorable national tournament for FFA.

“Overall, nationals was great, but I’m glad to be home.” – Hutsell said
